Welcome to SmartArrays, a powerful software component that makes it easy to add very high performance data handling and analytical calculations to your applications.

If you have used SmartArrays before, you will be particularly interested in the new classes that have been added to Release 4. The SmartArrays Data Management Toolkit is now included as a supported and documented part of the SDK. It gives you the core building blocks you need for rapid development of the data handling parts of your applications.

What's New in Release 4

The data management toolkit (see above) is the primary new feature in Release 4.  However, there are a number of other important enhancements:

• Direct data pointers into array bodies can now be accessed by the .NET and C++ interfaces.  These allow you to write custom "scalar-oriented" code for fast algorithms that do not fit the all-at-once array model.
• Improved debugging features for Visual Studio.
• Ability to read null values from databases with the SmDatabase built-in ODBC adapter.
• New string method strLookup() which provide substring-matching in arrays of strings.
• Performance improvements to reduce the overhead of SmArray calls.
